The power of open source hardware lies in the ability to build upon others’ work and good documentation is the key to making this happen. We believe that documentation best practices can increase contributions to open source hardware projects significantly. For this reason, Everywhere Tech has partnered with Open Source Ecology and the Open Source Hardware Association to host a collaborative event to arrive at an open source hardware documentation platform based on a set of shared standards. Open source hardware is hardware whose design is made publicly available so that anyone can study, modify, distribute, make, and sell the design or hardware based on that design. The hardware’s source, the design from which it is made, is available in the preferred format for making modifications to it. Ideally, open source hardware uses readily-available components and materials, standard processes, open infrastructure, unrestricted content, and open-source design tools to maximize the ability of individuals to make and use hardware. Open source hardware gives people the freedom to control their technology while sharing knowledge and encouraging commerce through the open exchange of designs. The Open Source Hardware Definition

Everywhere Tech’s mission is to facilitate open source technology transfer to help create resilient communities around the world.
The Everywhere Tech Map is a crowdsourced effort to map out real hardware needs and match them to relevant open source hardware projects.
In a world where patents and copyrights have become numerous, vague and obscure, it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between public domain, fair use, open source and proprietary components, all of which can coexist in a single device.
Everywhere Tech is committed to assisting organizations in the practical implementation of the open source documentation standards, technology transfer protocol, IP rescue program, and in the practical execution of pilot projects.
